Mexican Hot Chocolate

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan (2-3 Quarts)

Ingredients  

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon espresso powder
  • teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 ounces dark chocolate, chopped

Instructions 

  • Add milk, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, espresso powder, and chili powder to a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat until simmering. Do not let the milk boil.
  • Add the chopped chocolate to the saucepan and whisk until it melts.
  • Pour into mugs and serve with marshmallows, chocolate shavings, and a cinnamon stick.
